Channel gets three more letters threatening Jaya
Chennai, Sept. 24: Three more threat letters were received on Friday at the Jaya TV office here warning that AIADMK leader Ms Jayalalithaa should not undertake her proposed trip to Madurai on October 18 for addressing a public rally on ‘the failures of the DMK government on several fronts’.
“We have got three threat letters today and that takes the total to five after the first one came on August 28 shortly after she announced the Madurai rally. The second letter came on September 3. This is becoming an avalanche of threats, ” K. P. Suneel, vice-president (news), Jaya TV, said, adding that his office has lodged yet another complaint with the DGP in this regard.
Mr Suneel said one of the three letters that came now bore Thanjavur postal franking while another was from Madurai and the third letter had smudged franking.
The AIADMK MPs had petitioned the Prime Minister and Union home minister on September 20 alleging that the Tamil Nadu police was lackadaisical in its response to the threat letters and seeking CBI probe. The DMK government only released advertisements in newspapers about the security arrangements being provided to Ms Jayalalithaa and was not concerned about investigating the sources of the letters, said the MPs.
They also linked the letters to Union minister M.K. Alagiri, the DMK’s strongman at Madurai, arguing that the letters had warned her against talking about Tha.Kiruttinan’s murder—when she was the chief minister, police had included Mr Alagiri as an accused in that murder of the former DMK state minister.
MDMK chief Vaiko too voiced similar views while addressing the media at Delhi on Friday and warned that the threat letters should not be taken lightly.
